SLS has made The Khan Academy available to its high-school students.

It is an on-line educational resource that contains over 2700 videos covering a wide range of topics: arithmetic, algebra, physics, biology, chemistry, history, finance, art history, economics, SAT preparation etc.
These short (approximately 15 minutes) videos are presented by Salman Khan using his own presentation style. They enable students to study topics at their own pace.

How do we use this educational resource at SLS?
This educational resource will enable students to re-visit a topic that they have found difficult to understand. Students are encouraged to discuss which videos they should watch with their SLS teacher. However, the ultimate choice resides with the student. This is one way of encouraging students to take some responsibility for their own learning.
Students watch selected videos using the computer facilities available at SLS. These facilities are normally available, for a restricted period, on selected evenings.
If required, students can be allocated to a senior student who acts as a mentor for this activity. This is, normally, a mutually beneficial arrangement that enhances the learning process of both student and mentor.

Student feedback
Academic staff monitor how useful students find this educational resource in their studies via informal student feedback. Current students have reported that they have found the subject matter covered and its presentation style very helpful. (April 2012)
